We at Sunny King Honda call the city of Oxford, Alabama, our home. The city is located near the Blue Ridge Mountains and Talladega National Forest, with the mountains’ highest peak - Cheaha Mountain - being located nearby. Oxford is also centrally located between Atlanta and Birmingham, right off of Interstate 20, which puts it at an advantageous position for residents who enjoy being near the city while also living in a more relaxed, mild atmosphere.
The name “Oxford” was selected due to a crossing at Chocolocco Creek that was narrow enough for farmers to ford cattle across when the city was incorporated in 1852. Oxford was the first city in Calhoun County to be incorporated. Over time, the city has annexed surrounding communities, such as Coldwater, Bynum, and parts of Talladega County.
Things To Do
Oxford is packed with things to do, especially when you look at the sheer amount of local outdoor recreational activates and bodies of water. There is the beautiful Oxford Lake, home to Alabama’s oldest covered bridge, as well as Chocolocco Park and Freedom Park. Nearby locations such as the Blue Ridge Mountains or Talladega National Forest also provide opportunities for outdoor activities. Shopping opportunities are available at locations such as the Quintard Mall and the new Oxford Commons.
Oxford, Alabama, also has a yearly festival known as Oxfordfest, which takes place in October. The festival has been going for 31 years and attracts 20,000 to 25,000 attendees. With a parade, local vendors, a pageant, and prize drawings, Oxfordfest is the biggest event in the area. There are, of course, other fun local events year-round.
