What does my credit score measure?
A credit score is calculated from various aspects of your credit report. It essentially summarizes all of your credit information and history into one number.
What is a "good" credit score?
It depends on what you’re trying to get. Is it a credit card, a car loan, or a mortgage? Different sources require different scores. A “prime” credit score is 661 – 780, so that’s the ideal range you’d like to shoot for.
What affects my credit score?
Your payment history is the biggest factor. This takes into account if you’ve paid your bills on time. Other things that affect your score are credit card utilization, types of credit, and length of credit history.
What should my credit score be for a car loan?
Again, you’ll want to fall within that “prime” range of 661 – 780. But it really depends on the lender. Even with a subprime score, lenders could still give you a loan. The interest rate on that loan would just be higher. For the absolute best loan rates, you’ll want a score of 720 or higher.
